THE A38 will be shut in both directions for at least six hours this evening, Sunday, after an electricity pole was brought down by a crash.
A spokesperson for National Highways says: 'Drivers in Devon are advised that the A38 in Devon is closed in both directions near Buckfastleigh following a collision.
‘A single-vehicle collision at 3.55pm today resulted in an electricity pole being damaged and coming to rest across the carriageway.
‘‘Western Power are on the scene and anticipate repairs to the electricity pole will take at least six hours.
Both carriageways of the road are shut between A384 (Buckfastleigh) and the A385 (South Brent).
‘A diversion is in place for drivers in the area. Those travelling westbound are advised to exit the A38 at Dartbridge Interchange and, at the end of the slip road, turn left on to the A384.
‘Follow the A384 south/eastbound to Dartington and continue out of Dartington on the A384 to the roundabout with the A385 at Shinner's Bridge.
‘At the roundabout take the third exit on to the A384 Turn right in Dartington on to the A384. Follow the A385 westbound to Marley Head At the roundabout take the first exit to re-join the A38.
‘Motorists travelling eastbound are advised to exit the A38 at the Marley Head Interchange and, at the first roundabout, take the first exit on to the A385 eastbound.
‘At the next roundabout take the second exit to remain on the A385 towards Dartington and follow the A385 eastbound to the roundabout with the A384 at Shinner's Bridge.
‘Take the first exit on to the A384 towards Dartington Remain on the A384 north/westbound to the Dartbridge Interchange Pass over the A38 and turn right to re-join the A38 northbound.’
