A JustGiving donation page set up to fund a new clock for Gunnislake Village Hall is close to reaching it’s £1,000 target.
The fundraiser is aiming to replace the large clock on the main facade of the village which has not run correctly for several years and has already raised £930 after having been set up online only last week.
According to information in the petition’s description, on inspection the metal case was shown to be severely corroded where it had adjoined the mounting bracket. It requires extensive repair by a skilled metal fabricator before being repainted. The clock face will be refurbished and then reinstated with the clock mechanism itself.
Carol Mcallister-Green, a member of Gunnislake Community Matters, said: ‘£1,000 is a target. The major cost is repairing the rusty, metal casing and then respraying and coating to prevent future deterioration. There is some rewiring to the clock supply that also needs doing. Other costs are work that needs doing to the wall bracket to make it safe and improving access to it inside the hall for future maintenance. There are also costs involved in hiring equipment to rehang it once it’s done. Some of the repair work will be done by volunteers but the type of repairs needed and the prominent position of the clock means a lot will be done by professionals for safety reasons. The final expenditure will be part of the audited accounts of the village hall.’
